What happens when your air conditioner starts to act up? The first step is to identify the problem and decide whether it’s something you can fix yourself. We’ve rounded up a few problems that might need a visit from us to help you stay cool:
Your AC Is Running But Isn’t Cooling Your Home
If your air conditioner is running but not doing the job of cooling your home, it could be the result of dirty air filters. If the air filters are dirty, your AC is producing cold air but the filters are preventing it from distributing it, and the AC blows warm air.
If your filters have been changed, make sure that the outdoor unit is on and running. if it is on and not running, you’ll need to call us.
Your Air Conditioner Won’t Turn On
After it hasn’t been used for some months, it’s not uncommon for an AC unit to not turn on at the beginning of the cooling season. This problem is likely being caused by a thermostat that is either defective or is not set properly.
If it is your thermostat that causing the trouble, you should be able to resolve the issue on your own. Check your thermostat and make sure that it’s in the “cooling” position. If you have an automated thermostat, make sure that the timer is not set to “off” during this time. If your Boston home’s thermostat needs to be calibrated, you may need to contact us for air conditioner repair.
The unit may not be turning on because it’s not receiving any power. Check your breakers or fuses to ensure that they haven’t tripped, preventing the AC from receiving electricity. If the problem is being caused by an electrical issue, call us immediately. Electrical issues are not a DIY situation!
